Our Commitment to Your Privacy

The D.O.C Community respects the tradition of anonymity. We understand that privacy is especially important in recovery spaces. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, which third parties may receive data when you use certain features, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: Your name, email address, and any optional details you add to your profile (bio, phone number, screen name, profile picture).

Sign-in providers: If you continue with Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Facebook, that provider shares basic account identifiers (such as name and email) with us according to the permissions you approve.

Content You Create: Posts, comments, journal entries, inventories, gratitude lists, podcast submissions, volunteer sign-ups, and game scores.

Usage Data: How you interact with the app (features used, timestamps) to improve the experience.

Device & Notifications: If you enable push notifications, we store your device token to deliver alerts you have opted into. The mobile app may also request device permissions (for example camera, microphone, or photo library) when you use features that need them, such as uploading a profile photo or recording.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve app features (feed, journals, meetings, games, literature, etc.).
  • To display your contributions to the community when you choose to share them.
  • To send notifications you have requested (messages, events, reminders).
  • To track community stars and recovery milestones for your profile.
  • To process donations and volunteer sign-ups.
  • To maintain a safe and respectful community environment.
  • To authenticate your account and secure the service.

3. Anonymity & Confidentiality

We honor the spiritual principle of anonymity. Your private entries — journals, inventories, and gratitude lists — are visible only to you unless you explicitly choose to share them. We do not sell your identity or personal content.

We ask all members to respect each other's anonymity. Sharing another member's identity or stories outside this app is a violation of our community values.

4. Private vs. Shared Content

Private: Journal entries, nightly inventories, spot check inventories, and gratitude lists are visible only to you. AI feedback on these entries is generated on your request and stored with the entry.

Shared: Feed posts, comments, event RSVPs, volunteer sign-ups, and game participation are visible to the community as part of how those features work.

5. AI-Powered Features

The AI Sponsor, journal feedback, and meditation features use artificial intelligence to generate responses based on your input and conversation history. Your entries and messages are sent to the AI model to produce personalized responses. We do not use your private content to train external models. AI responses are supportive tools and should not replace professional guidance.

6. Push Notifications

If you enable notifications, we use a third-party service (OneSignal, and/or the push services provided with our mobile app builds) to deliver alerts such as new messages, event reminders, and community updates. You can turn notifications off at any time from your Profile, and you can mute specific members or all members.

7. Donations & Payments

Donations are processed through Base44 Payments (and related payment processors). Payment details (card numbers, billing info) are handled by the payment provider — we do not store or access your full payment information. We only receive confirmation of the transaction and the donor name for display in the community when applicable.

8. Recovery Literature & Third-Party Content

The Literature section may load official recovery materials from third-party websites and content networks, including Alcoholics Anonymous World Services (aa.org and related CDN hosts such as aaws.widen.net), Narcotics Anonymous (na.org), Co-Dependents Anonymous (coda.org), Al-Anon Family Groups (al-anon.org), and AA Grapevine (aagrapevine.org).

When you open those materials in-app or in a browser tab, your device may connect directly to those third-party servers. Those organizations may receive standard technical information such as IP address, browser or app type, and the page or file requested. Their privacy practices govern that data. We do not control aa.org or other fellowship sites, and we do not host redistributed copies of copyrighted A.A. books inside our own servers when we link to their official PDFs.

9. Third-Party Services

We use the following categories of third-party services to operate the app:

  • Base44 — app hosting, database, authentication, and related infrastructure.
  • Base44 Payments — donation processing.
  • OneSignal (and/or Apple/Google push services) — optional push notifications.
  • Sign-in providers — Google, Apple, Microsoft, and/or Facebook when you choose those options.
  • Fellowship literature hosts — aa.org, na.org, coda.org, al-anon.org, aagrapevine.org, and their CDNs when you open literature.

Each provider has its own privacy policy covering the data they process.

10. Data Retention

Your content remains in the app as long as your account is active. You can delete individual entries (posts, journals, inventories) at any time.

Deleting your account permanently removes your account record and profile (name, screen name, bio, phone number, profile photo link) and all of your content and activity: posts, comments, chat messages, direct messages you sent or received, comments you left and comments left on your profile, reactions, follows and unfollows (both directions), blocks you placed on other members, journals, prayers, sobriety profile, points, stars and game scores, uploaded readings, event RSVPs, volunteer sign-ups and hours, and podcast submissions. In two-player games, your name and email are replaced with "Deleted member" so the other player's history stays intact.

Safety and moderation records where your account was blocked or banned may be kept after deletion, so that the block can continue to protect our community.

Donation records are financial records and are kept for bookkeeping, but anonymized: your name, email, and donation message are removed, and only the amount, date, and payment status are retained.

Files you uploaded (such as a profile photo, post images, or audio recordings) are removed from the app, but a copy may remain on our file-storage provider at an unlisted address. To have those stored files removed as well, email support@day1sober.org.

10a. Deleting Your Account Without the App

You can delete your account at any time from the Profile page in the app (tap Delete Account and type DELETE to confirm). If you no longer have the app, email support@day1sober.org from your account email with the subject "Delete my DOC UnityBridge account". Your account and data will be deleted as described above within 30 days.

Administrator accounts cannot be deleted from within the app. Administrators who want to close their account should email support@day1sober.org.

11. Your Choices

  • Edit your profile: Update your name, bio, screen name, and photo anytime.
  • Control notifications: Enable/disable push notifications and mute members.
  • Delete content: Remove your posts, journals, and inventories individually.
  • Delete your account: Permanently delete your account and data from your Profile page, or by email as described in section 10a (donation records are kept in anonymized form).

12. Crisis Situations

If you reach out through the AI Sponsor or community features indicating a crisis, we are not a crisis service. Call or text 988 or 911 for immediate help.

13. Children's Privacy

The app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has registered, please contact us so we can remove the account.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be communicated within the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
